The Pakistani "fidayeens" carrying UBGL (under barrel grenade launcher) and other automatic weapons entered the camp in the dead of night, taking the jawans by surprise. "They were challenged by camp sentries", said a CRPF official. He claimed a number of security force personnel were killed or injured.

As exchange of fire continued following the infiltration, militants were holed up in a building block at the camp - where they were later gunned down.

Personnel from Rashtriya Rifles, CRPF and state police soon cordoned off the camp and flushed out the two ultras. They (militants) were trying. The condition of the two wounded soldiers - who were rushed to a hospital - was later reported to be stable.

The sources said main building consist of three blocks, four floor each, block one is used for officer's family accommodation, second block is for main office and block three has been targeted by militants. IG Ravi said, this was deadliest Fidayeen attack by the Pakistani terrorists in recent times.

Meanwhile, Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) militant outfit has claimed responsibility for the fidayeen attack.

The attack comes on the heels of the killing of a top Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) "commander", Noor Mohammad Tantray, who was gunned down in an encounter in Samboora village in Pulwama district of South Kashmir earlier on Tuesday.
