Allardyce confirms Everton interest in Tosun and ´many others´

Word has it that Everton are poised to blow their Christmas money on a striker in the January sales, with Besiktas forward Cenk Tosun top of their wish list.

Besiktas were reluctant to sell Tosun after reaching the knockout stages of the Champions League, but Everton's offer of £25 million for the player has been too good to turn down.

Tosun, who has been linked with Crystal Palace and Newcastle, helped Besiktas reach the Champions League last 16, where they will face Bayern Munich.

Asked about the club's interest in the 26-year-old, Allardyce said: "Him and many others".

Everton have struggled for goals this season and it has been a contributing factor to their poor form in the campaign before Allardyce's arrival in November.

Wayne Rooney has been key so far, finding the net 11 times since his summer return but the former England captain needs support.

"We have also started to struggle to create chances and score goals in recent matches".

He would join an Everton side that has performed well since Allardyce took the reigns but is still in need of a goalscorer in the final third.

"Players already here, like Sandro (Ramirez), haven't picked up the pace of the Premier League - he hasn't been able to show what he showed in Spain".

"It is still one of the major problems that we have".

"Oumar Niasse hasn't made a regular place in the Premier League, and Dominic Calvert-Lewin is battling away but we can't rely in him week in and week out at the moment".

Everton will have Wayne Rooney back for selection for the trip to the south coast after missing the last two games with illness.

While Ross Barkley (knee) does not look set to be involved, Allardyce said he is "very, very close to being available".

"It seems to be working, to speed up the recovery process, and there's a few more players who'll test it out".
