Texas Woman Killed Mother, Abducted Her Newborn Girl

Police say the infant was found unharmed early Thursday at a southwest Houston apartment.

They say it appeared the couple was trying to leave with the baby, but they were taken into custody without incident.

It is believed that Miranda-Alvarez, who was arrested on December 21, was friends with Flores' brother.

An Amber Alert was issued on Tuesday evening for Shamali Flores, described as 30 inches tall and weighing 20 pounds. When Miranda-Alvarez was questioned, she admitted to kidnapping the victim's six-week-old daughter Shamali Flores.

This is why authorities believe Miranda-Alvarez planned to pass baby Shamali off as her own child.

He says Miranda-Alvarez hid her miscarriage from family members and was claiming that she had just returned this week from the hospital after giving birth. He's not considered a suspect or person of interest in the death, officials have said.

Acevedo says investigators are now working to piece together every aspect of the crime to not only get an arrest and a charge "but also a conviction".

Shamali appeared unharmed and was taken to a local hospital as a precaution.

UPDATE: This is the mug shot of Erika J. Miranda-Alvarez, 28, who our investigators arrested this morning at an apartment at 9707 South Gessner.

A prosecutor read police statements that said what they believe had happened. She was due in January, but continued to "fake her pregnancy with loved ones".

The infant disappeared after her mother was stabbed to death in her Houston home on Tuesday.

"We owe that to the family of this little baby and her brothers and sisters".

"Everything our investigators theorized turned out to be true", he said. That kind of loss, which Pesikoff talked about, led to McClain's obsession with having a baby of her own.

"But for our ability to build that relationship... we wouldn't have developed those theories early on in our investigation", he said. They were detained and the newborn was determined to be the missing baby, police said.

"And that's the most important part", he said.
