Sam Allardyce: 'Everton penalty decision in Merseyside derby was correct'

Klopp dismissed a reporter's questions about whether Dejan Lovren's challenge on Dominic Calvert-Lewin was a penalty or not and was criticised by many for the way he deal with the line of questioning.

"I would give the same interview now". That's all I said.

"You look in the eyes of the journalists and you see they're not interested in what you feel, and I know that already, but sometimes it feels not too cool and that's why I reacted the way I did".

But, the Reds can not hide from the fact they struggle to protect a lead with questions continuing about the strength of their defence and the decision-making of Lovren. I don't like it, but I'm pretty sure I can't change it. I'm no actor, I can't act differently.

"But meanwhile I can keep myself that calm that nothing serious happens in situations like this. It was just an interview, nothing else".

"I don't think anyone really remembers it, or would watch back and think that it was "hilarious" or "legendary" - it was just an interview". We had [Gylfi] Sigurdsson on [Jordan] Henderson, which was again a red card like in all derbies so far since I am in, there is always one really nasty one at least.

Strangely the Reds gaffer, Jurgen Klopp, took the world by surprise after he opted to start the match without the Brazilian duo of Roberto Firmino and Phillipe Coutinho.

But Premier League and Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer disagreed.

"When you get injuries in November what we had a year ago then you can not rotate in December because the players are not there and then you suffer in January".

He added: 'They had three shots on target, we had two.

"The players who came on did a brilliant job. I have no problem, as long as you show the right amount respect".

"You can not play the same 11 players all the time until four are injured and then you hope the other four who come in - who are quality but have no rhythm - will perform for you".
