Tennessee has ended the most tortured football coaching search imaginable and hired Alabama defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt, according to reports. Alabama will meet Clemson in the Sugar Bowl in one national semifinal game on January 1.

Pruitt, who was a defensive back at MTSU (1993-94) and Alabama (1995-96) also appeared on the MTV TV series Two-A-Days while he was an assistant coach at Hoover High School in Alabama.

This year, Pruitt has coached Alabama's defense to the No. 2 overall defense in the country after guiding the Crimson Tide to the No. 1 defense last season.

In 2007, Alabama hired him to work with the defense.

Following just one year as Florida State's defensive coordinator, Pruitt traveled up north to Athens, Georgia to serve as the Bulldogs defensive coordinator for two years.

Throughout his impressive time as an assistant coach, Pruitt has coached 34 National Football League draft picks. State's Dave Doeren and Washington State's Mike Leach before being replaced by Fulmer.

Pruitt was also a recent finalist for the Mississippi State head coaching position, but the Bulldogs hired Penn State offensive coordinator Joe Moorhead on November 28.
