Man charged for the murder of missing 3-year-old Mariah Woods

The man charged in connection with the death of a missing North Carolina 3-year-old appeared in court Monday morning. It is not known if Kimrey has entered a plea yet.

Kimrey charges include concealment of a death and obstruction of justice.

Three-year-old Mariah Woods was reported missing from her home in Jacksonville, North Carolina, around 6 a.m. November 27, prompting a massive search effort involving state and local police, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and hundreds of volunteers.

More than 700 volunteers turned out Friday as the search for the missing girl shifted to the area around a creek a few miles from her home, CNN affiliate WNCN reported. "The arrest warrants are public record and the records speaks for themselves". At the time, her mother, Kristy Woods, said she put her little girl to bed on Sunday night and woke up to find her gone. Positive confirmation of the identity of the remains will be made by the Medical Examiner's Office.

An arrest warrant released Saturday morning accused Kimrey of "removing Mariah Woods' body from the scene of the her death, and did hide Mariah Woods death and body, knowing that Mariah Woods died from unnatural causes".

Sixteen hours after announcing Kimrey's arrest, Onslow County Sheriff Hans Miller said the girl's body was found by dive teams around 5:30 p.m. Saturday.

Mariah's parents are divorced, and her father, Alex Woods, said that while his daughter had been living with her mother, his week had been "like hell, like a nightmare".

Investigators say they believed to be that of a missing 3-year-old North Carolina girl. "We will not discuss any details related to the homicide investigation". "[.] Just to be able to touch her and hold her and not let her go again", she said.

District Attorney Ernie Less said additional charges could be filed. Woods told WCTI-TV in New Bern last week.

This weekend, the search for 3-year-old Mariah Woods ended tragically. "Nobody heard anything? Four people in the house, two adults and two kids someone just comes up and snatches the baby and walks out?"
