Here's How Much The Mueller Investigation Has Reportedly Cost So Far

President Trump drew criticism for his apparent acceptance of Russian President Vladimir Putin's denials of election meddling.

The people who were briefed on the reassignment said it was due to the "discovery of text messages in which Strzok and a colleague reacted to news events, like presidential debates, in ways that could appear critical of Trump".

"In light of today's press reports, we now know why Strzok was dismissed, why the Federal Bureau of Investigation and DOJ refused to provide us this explanation, and at least one reason why they previously refused to make Deputy Director McCabe available to the Committee for an interview", Nunes said.

Strzok's attorney refused to comment on the publication.

Justice Department spokeswoman Sara Isgur Flores said in an email that "we disagree with the chairman's characterization and will continue to work with congressional committees to provide the information they request consistent with our national security responsibilities".

A friend of Page said there was no professional misconduct at issue in the matter, and she said Page left the Mueller team in July before any of the issues came to light.

The inquiry into Mr. Strzok is being conducted by the Justice Department's inspector general, Michael E. Horowitz, who is leading a broad examination of how the F.B.I. handled the Clinton email investigation. Some conservatives encouraged Mr. Trump to fire Mr. Mueller, saying the investigation was tainted. Multiple outlets report he's now working in human resources. Word of the texts could give new fuel to those demands.

"A whole bunch of the investigators who are Hillary Clinton donors or supporters", he said, adding that Mueller is a "close pal" of ousted FBI Director James Comey. Days later, Comey announced the emails on the laptop did not change the FBI's view of the case.

"Immediately upon learning of the allegations, the Special Counsel's Office removed Peter Strzok from the investigation", said Peter Carr, a spokesman for the special counsel's office. Mueller has been looking into Russian interference in the 2016 USA presidential election since May. Of the four, two have pled guilty to lying to the FBI - Flynn and a former Trump campaign adviser.

Strzok was a major player in the Clinton email and Trump-Russia investigations.
