Trump "very happy" after Flynn plea: "There's been absolutely no collusion".

Strzok led the investigation into whether Clinton mishandled classified information on her private email account and then investigated possible links between Trump's campaign and Russian Federation.

Trump tweeted about Flynn later in the day, recalling his firing after it was revealed he misled Vice President Mike Pence about his conversations with Kislyak.

A spokesperson for Mueller's team confirmed to BuzzFeed News that Strzok was no longer assigned part of the investigation.

It is now moving closer to the Oval Office itself as Flynn has agreed to cooperate with special prosecutor Robert Mueller. Page also left the Mueller team two weeks before they became aware of the allegations.

Strzok was reportedly reassigned this past summer from the Mueller investigation to the FBI's human resources department, according to The Times.

The agent has been identified as Peter Strzok, one of the agency's most experienced and trusted counterintelligence investigators, said the New York Times, which first reported the dismissal.

Strzok was a major player in the Clinton email and Trump-Russia investigations.

Mr Kushner's lawyer did not respond to multiple requests for comment. In apparent reference to the case, the Justice Department inspector general's office said in a statement on Saturday that it was "reviewing allegations involving communications between certain individuals".

"I had to fire General Flynn because he lied to the Vice President and the FBI", Trump wrote.

Flynn resigned from his post February 13 and Comey testified before Senate Intelligence Committee that in a February 14 meeting in the White House - just a day after Flynn had left - Trump asked him to drop the investigation. But the issue was resurrected in late October, when Comey informed congressional leaders that the FBI had discovered new Clinton emails on a laptop belonging to former congressman Anthony Weiner, then the subject of a separate FBI investigation.

U.S. President Donald Trump's former National Security Adviser, Michael T. Flynn, pleaded guilty on Friday to lying to the Federal Bureau of Investigation about conversations with the Russian ambassador last December during the presidential transition, bringing the special counsel's probe into the President's inner circle. Though White House officials including Pence had stated publicly that Flynn had not discussed sanctions with Kislyak, Yates has said she advised McGahn that there were factual problems with that account.

The discovery of the text messages came at a crucial moment in Mr. Mueller's investigation.
