Rumor: 'Super Mario' Cereal Coming From Kellogg's, Includes amiibo Functionality

Kellogg's and Nintendo have teamed up to release the official Super Mario Cereal, which the companies promise will "take fans on a breakfast odyssey that will continue long after the cereal box is empty".

In September this year, Nintendo announced a partnership with Post to put Mario branding on cereals like Honey Bunches of Oats, Honeycomb, Golden Crisp, and more. This will get fans to buy it for sure. Prefer your games analog?

"The box features Mario (and Cappy) about to chow down on some mushrooms and "?

The last time Mario had his own cereal, however, was way back in the 1980s, when Nintendo partnered with Ralston Cereals to release the Nintendo Cereal System. The new Super Mario Cereal is also an Amiibo, which means you can tap the box and receive coins or a gold heart in the new Super Mario Odyssey game.

No, it's not April 1 and no, I'm not making it up, but it looks as though Mario's next role sees him as a cereal killer... yup, it looks like Mario's coming to a cereal aisle near you soon!

Cerealously weren't the only ones who discovered references to the new cereal. "Blocks", or as the boxart calls them "power-up marshmallows". After all, Mario has ascended beyond mere video game fame to become a globally-recognized mascot, so it makes sense that Nintendo would want its promotion machine to implant itself in as many markets as possible. You might remember this Kellogg's Pokémon cereal from 2000, with marshmallow Poliwhirls, Dittos, Oddishes, and Pikachus.
