PM Modi inaugurates Hyderabad Metro Rail

The much-awaited Metro was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday.

The prime minister was given a cordial welcome by Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, state Governor ESL Narasimhaan and the entire Telangana state Cabinet and members of Parliament at the airport.

Officials said the first stage of the metro, covering a 30-kilometre distance, will be open to the public from Wednesday.

Only the Miyapur-Nagole stretch will be inaugurated on Tuesday. The metro will open to the public on Wednesday. Hyderabad metro rail news comes at a time of the inauguration of the Global Entrepreneurship Summit where US President Donald Trump's daughter Ivanka Trump is present. In the beginning, Metro will operate only from 9 AM to 10 PM daily. The timings would be changed to 5.30 am to 11 pm later, depending on traffic and demand. The rolling stock has been built by Hyundai Rotem in Changwon, South Korea.

The minimum ticket fare for a ride is INR 10, while the maximum is INR 60.

Each train would initially have three coaches with capacities of 330 people each.

The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) will also start feeder services for the metro and a smart card was launched on Saturday for metro rail passengers.

As many as 546 security personnel belonging to private agencies will guard the 24 stations on the Miyapur-Nagole stretch. PM Modi also unveiled the mobile app for Hyderabad Metro Rail and other transportation facilities in the city, known as TSavaari.
