McGregor May Not Fight Again

McGregor, 29, hasn't fought for the UFC since in over 12 months and has yet to defend either of the world titles he has won inside the Octagon.

White was a major component in helping McGregor get the fight with Mayweather back in August that earned him that hefty payday and while that massive paycheck could potentially bring the Irishman's UFC career to a close, he still has no regrets about making it happen.

The UFC president was speaking at a press conference to promote UFC 218 but the questions were primarily concerning McGregor, as expected.

"Listen, the punishment, he was being dealt with by the head of the (Association of Boxing Commissions), and we were going to fight him, regardless of what (McGregor manager) Audie (Attar) says", White said. The guy's got $100 (expletive) million.

"I've got guys who've made less than that and fucking or lawyers who went to school all their life and quit working".

'Try getting up in the morning with $100m in the bank and getting punched in the face every day'.

"Money changes everything with a lot of people so, we'll see", he added.

In the build-up to the Mayweather showdown, McGregor insisted he would return to the octagon and the UFC were hopeful he would headline their fight night on December 30.

"Conor might never fight again", White told reporters at a UFC 218 media lunch yesterday. Once the referee informed him that he had not yet stopped the fight, McGregor lost the plot, shoved Goddard and then proceeded to strike a Bellator employee in the face. "When you make that kind of money, you're that famous and you're a professional athlete, you're gonna have an overload of cling-ons".

"What I would like right now, this is my thought, If Nate comes back and fights someone and wins, Conor fights someone and wins, Conor has a boxing match, they have a huge MMA fight after that, f***king huge".

"I'm wearing my old veteran crime reporter hat - I have to say, that Conor McGregor is in a very risky place right now", he said. "His behaviour recently has been worrying".

One man who has been pushing particularly hard for a McGregor return is interim lightweight champion Tony Ferguson.

"That's not the healthiest environment".

Joe Rogan spoke about Conor McGregor's options in the fight game on his most recent episode of the JRE Podcast with Bryan Callen. If it's true, I'm sure we'll find out.

"He's a young, rich kid who is a god in Ireland".

"Right now with him, it's not about defend or vacate", White explained. We're working on a new deal with him.
