Bungie Changes XP System, Teases More Updates For 'Destiny 2'

Destiny 2 is latest in a recent crop of titles - which also includes Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus, and Project Cars 2 - to offer up a slice of gameplay for free, post release. Since then, Bungie has admitted that this system was present in the game and given its own statement on the matter. This is particularly notable because, once you reach level 20, you begin earning Bright Engrams each time you fill your XP bar.

Destiny 2 is a more attractive proposition than ever, with the release of a free trial of the game being released November 28. All progress will move over for those who purchase the full version down the road too, which is a pretty nice incentive to download it and give it a try at the very least. Bungie has "seen community discussion" surrounding this system and after reviewing its data, the developer will be switching this system off. After reviewing our data, we agree that the system is not performing the way we'd like it to.

For example, the amount of experience points would scale up when playing Crucible competitive matches or the Leviathan Raid, which it said were "longer or fixed duration activities".

Effective immediately, we are deactivating this system. As of last week, XP gain rates have changed across the board, but the value is consistently displayed in the user interface at the bottom of the screen.

In the meantime, Bungie Game Director Luke Smith took to Twitter amidst the heat of the all of this and promised information next week on updates and economy changes. Today, we'd like to describe what's going on under the hood, and talk about what you can expect going forward when it comes to earning XP in Destiny 2.

As of Sunday, the system has been removed from Destiny 2 though players were once again up in arms after noticing that the experience needed to earn a bright engram was quietly doubled from 80,000 to 160,000 in the same patch.
