Grizzlies Fire David Fizdale

The Grizz fired head coach David Fizdale on Monday, per ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Fizdale benched Grizzlies center Marc Gasol on Sunday, and apparently, they didn't have the best relationship. Clearly ownership or management felt there was a need for change. "Feels like my man was a fall guy".

The Grizzlies started off the season with a string of wins but have slumped to a 7-12 record this season, putting them at 12th in the West. Then the team lost its eighth straight on Sunday, matching the longest skid for this franchise since February 11-March 3, 2009.

The Grizzlies have lost 11 of their last 13, including the last seven without point guard Mike Conley who has been sidelined with an injury.

David Fizdale, former head coach of the Memphis Grizzlies, at FedExForum, Memphis, Tennessee, April 27. "For him to not go back in that fourth quarter was not OK". Gasol, a three-time All-Star over his nine-year career with the Grizzlies, had been productive enough to finish tied with Tyreke Evans for the most points (18) despite sitting out the final 12 minutes. "But to me it wasn't the losses but the way they were playing, the attitude, the body language".

Sunday's benching did not sit well with the younger Gasol, who told reporters afterward he was "more angry that I can show". "If I'm not on the floor, that means I'm not valued". "I'm sure (the coaching staff) knew that would hurt me the most".

Bickerstaff, who served as Memphis' associate head coach, posted a 37-34 mark as an interim coach with the Houston Rockets in 2015-16.
