US President Donald Trump gives meme-makers the Time of their lives

"I said probably is no good and took a pass. Thanks anyway!", Trump tweeted Friday evening. And it wasn't long before Time issued a correction to Trump's story.

New York Mets pitcher Noah Syndergaard mocked President Donald Trump after he tweeted about rejecting the honor of being TIME Magazine's "Person of the Year".

Time's chief content officer, Alan Murray, followed up by saying there was "not a speck of truth" in what the president had tweeted. Trump said he turned the magazine down.

Donald Trump's claim that he took a "pass" on being named TIME magazine's annual Person of the Year got skewered over the weekend on social media.

Trump may yet be named 2017 Person of the Year - Richard Nixon, Stalin and Deng Xiaoping were all named it twice.

"The #MuellerInvestigation just called and said you were PROBABLY going to be named Soap Monitor on your wing and would have to agree to an interview and a perp picture with your combover shaved off", the actor tweeted.

It's not the first time Trump's had a thing about Time: He often brags about the number of times he's appeared on the publication's cover.

Earlier this year a report surfaced that a fake cover of the iconic news magazine had hung from at least five of Trump's private clubs, including Mar-a-Lago in Florida.

Trump claimed on Twitter on Friday that he had taken himself out of consideration after he refused to meet the magazine's "requirements" for an interview and photo shoot without being guaranteed the title.

Shortly after Cheeto's tweet, TIME stepped up and confirmed the obvious. Time's newsroom is still home to many great journalists, but the economic environment for newsweeklies is absolutely brutal.
