Benzema: Ronaldo More Selfish Than Me

Michael Owen has revealed if Karim Benzema hadn't chose to join Real Madrid he would never have signed for Manchester United.

"[Ronaldo] is more selfish than me, but that's normal", Benzema explained in an interview with Canal+, via Marca.

"In the end, his selfishness doesn't bother me, it is good for the team".

None more so than goal machine, Cristiano Ronaldo. Owen spent eight seasons at Merseyside, scoring more than 100 goals and has been among their most prolific strikers.

"It's hard, especially in Spain, where sometimes you don't understand it", he admitted. With a dog you hunt more and you hunt better.

It takes a special kind of personality to, on one hand, be the player who played a major role in some of a club's biggest successes of the last 20 years and then, on the other hand, be so utterly despised by the same club's fans that they are actively petitioning for you to be removed from your position as club ambassador.

"But I will handle it", said Deschamps.

"I'm shy but if you make fun of me, I'll be direct". It's not a question of him calling me or not, I had him on the phone before the Euros and he didn't give me an explanation. Even if he's someone I respect, after a while, I started to lose it. We had a meeting for an hour.

Benzema nevertheless expressed his desire to play at the 2018 World Cup and added he hopes "things can change in the future".

Yet another global break has arrived and Karim Benzema continues to be left out of Didier Deschamps' plans, and while domestically he and Cristiano Ronaldo continue to struggle for goals, the French forward has confessed that the Portuguese forward is more selfish than he is.

The striker is still only 29, so it's not beyond the realms of possibility that he may be able to resurrect his France career at some point, but it will undoubtedly be a disappointment in an otherwise excellent career.
