President Moon heads to Vietnam, bilateral summit with China's Xi Jinping

Chinese President Xi Jinping has reportedly stressed the importance of South Korea-China relations and expressed strong hope to develop bilateral relations during his summit talks with President Moon Jae-in.

Chinese President Xi Jinping (R) meets with South Korean President Moon Jae-in in Da Nang, Vietnam, Nov. 11, 2017. The two leaders met on the sidelines of the two-day Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum summit that began the previous day.

Meanwhile, North Korea's main state newspaper, Rodon Sinmun, went into attacks mode with a commentary that "Trump has flown to South Korea as he seeks to strengthen military threats against us and has an intention to light the fuse for a nuclear war".

In a bilateral summit held Thursday, Moon and his Indonesian counterpart Joko Widodo agreed to further upgrade the countries' diplomatic relations to a "special strategic partnership" that will emphasize greater economic and trade cooperation, as well as exchanges between their people.

At the end of last month, the two countries put bilateral ties back on track after a yearlong standoff over the deployment of the US -led Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (Thaad) battery in Korea, and the recent summit further cements the normalization of relations.

As part of a broader effort to boost the tourism industry, the government said Friday it will temporarily allow tourists from three Southeast Asian countries - Indonesia, Vietnam and the Philippines - to enter the country without a visa.

Moon agreed to make his first visit to China next month, said presidential chief press secretary Yoon Young-chan in a press briefing, which would mark his first visit to the country since he took office.

Under what he calls a "New South Policy", the South Korean leader said his country seeks to build a win-win relationship with all 10 members of Asean.
