Pogba says Man Utd pal Martial 'one of best I've played with'

Anthony Martial is "one of the best players" Manchester United and France colleague Paul Pogba has ever seen.

Having damaged his hamstring in a Champions League meeting with Basel a couple of months ago, the Manchester United midfielder hasn't been seen on a football field since.

But Pogba has backed his fellow compatriot to break his way into the United starting line-up more often in the near future. Mourinho has given a week off to his star players who are not involved in global duties. The list includes the likes of Chris Smalling, Juan Mata, Ander Herrera and Scott McTominay.

Mourinho knows the Red Devils have to take something from those key games against their rivals or the title race could virtually be over by Christmas, and Pogba's return to fitness would be a huge boost. The Argentine global last featured for the 20-time English champions in their last season's Europa League clash against Anderlecht in April.

The main area of United's focus for January will undoubtedly in defence, and whilst Real Madrid's Raphael Varane will remain on the United radar, boss Jose Mourinho is already casting admiring glances in the direction of Barcelona's French worldwide Samuel Umtiti.

But Pogba has remained at Carrington in a bid to return in time to feature against Rafael Benitez's side at Old Trafford on Saturday week and was joined at training by Marcos Rojo and Michael Carrick.

Rojo travelled with United's team to London for their 1-0 defeat to Chelsea but was not fit enough to make the bench. They face the Tyneside club after the two weeks of worldwide break on 18 October and the return of the trio will come as welcome boost for Mourinho.
