Jorge Sampaoli talks up Lionel Messi, Sergio Aguero partnership

Lionel Messi has been forced to apologise for Zenit forward Sebastian Driussi after mistaking his fellow Argentine for a selfie-seeking fan.

The 21-year-old posed for a picture with the Barcelona star which was uploaded to Instagram, with Messi later apologising for not recognising him during the time of the photo.

Driussi has been earmarked as a potential Argentina team-mate of Messi's having impressed coming through the ranks. "When he asked me for the photograph I thought he was one of the guys waiting for a photograph".

He added: "When I saw him in the lobby of the hotel I was thinking of something else and I did not realise".

It was stated that Messi's departure from the Argentina camp is not related to injury.

The Zenit forward has found goals quite hard to come by this season, scoring just three times in 19 games, after enjoying a prolific campaign, last season in which he hit 20 goals in 36 appearances.

Messi dubbed the suggestions as a "total lie".

Argentina manager Jorge Sampaoli has hailed the on-field understanding between Lionel Messi and Sergio Aguero after the pair starred against World Cup hosts Russian Federation on Saturday afternoon. "He had the situations he had and they took it against him, but we are used to being told atrocities about us".
