Pregnant woman accused of baking roommate's pet ferret alive

A U.S. woman has been accused of burning her roommate's pet ferret to death by throwing it into an oven and turning on the heat.

Manchester police arrived at the apartment about 2:40 a.m. Wednesday after firefighters removed a "burnt item" from the apartment.

The dead ferret was observed to have burn marks.

When questioned by police, two people renting the apartment told police about a "temporary guest" who had already vacated the premises, but who was still standing outside the building among other displaced tenants.

The Manchester resident faces arraignment on the afternoon of November 8, on a felony animal cruelty count.

She also said because she was 32-weeks pregnant she didn't think a ferret should be in their Manchester apartment, police added. Police believe that Clifford's motive was her fury at her roommate, Cara Murray, constantly stealing the suspect's clothes.

She added: "To lose a ferret, it's like losing a kid or family".

With tears running down her face, a grief-stricken Murray told reporters that knowing her cherished 2-year-old female ferret, Angel, suffered such a awful death was too much for her and her boyfriend to bear.

Judge Gillian Abramson told Clifford, "These allegations display a profound sense of sadism". If Clifford posts bail, she is not allowed to return to Murray's apartment, reports CBS Boston. And for that reason, I am setting bail in the amount of $10,000 cash only.

"My boyfriend opened it and there was the dead ferret", she said, crying.

According to court paperwork, "the ferret was stuck to the bottom coil of the oven" and was "deceased upon arrival".

"She nips. She's a baby", Murray told NH1.
