Ford India launches all new 2018 EcoSport; here's everything to know

The feature list of the new EcoSport includes touchscreen infotainment system with SYNC 3 and Emergency Assistance, cruise control, a speed limiter function, a rear-view camera and automatic climate control.

Ford India launched its new updated EcoSport on Tuesday with starting price 7.31 lakh (ex-showroom). The delivering fuel economy of petrol EcoSport is 17KM per liter and priced between Rs7.31 lakh and Rs10.99 lakh.

Propelling the new Ford Ecosport is the all-new naturally aspirated 1.5-litre, three-cylinder petrol engine.

The Ford Ecosport is being pitched as a tough competition to Maruti's Vitara Brezza which has performed well in the compact SUV segment. Another big change in the design is that it has new 17-inch alloy wheels and claiming to be lighter and stronger than the previous. The Tata Nexon though is substantially cheaper than both these SUVs with prices ranging from Rs 5.85-8.59 lakh. The new Ford EcoSport has a redesigned dashboard, all-black interiors with leather upholstery and redesigned seats, and more flexibility of storage space added to the boot as well as some cubbyholes in the cabin.

The 1.5L TDCi diesel engine churns out 91Ps power and a peak torque of 204Nm and comes mated to a manual transmission; while the 1.5L Ti-VCT petrol engine offers 112Ps of power and 140Nm of peak torque. "We have increased the level of localisation to 85 per cent from 60-65 per cent when the model was first launched in 2013", Ford India MD and president Anurag Mehrotra said at the launch. The petrol variant comes with a mileage of 17kmpl and the diesel comes with a mileage of 23kmpl. Here are the variant wise features on the new EcoSport.

The Ford Ecosport is the only subcompact SUV that one can buy today that comes with a petrol automatic option. While both the engines come mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox, the auto also gets an all-new 6-speed automatic transmission, which is a torque converter. However, for some variants, there will be an automatic transmission. Prices for the TUV300 AMT ranges from Rs 9.34-10.65 lakh. The petrol-automatic model also features paddleshifters, hill start assist, ESC and traction control, while the top-spec Titanium+ trim gets side and curtain airbags along with Isofix child-seat mounts at the rear.
