Pulwama: One of the three terrorists who were gunned down in South Kashmir's Pulwama district in an encounter on Monday was Talha Rasheed, the nephew of Jaish-e-Mohammed chief Masood Azhar.

"Talha Rasheed, nephew of JeM Pakistan based chief Moulana Masood Azhar".

Another killed militant was the Jaish's divisional commander.

Two other soldiers and a civilian were also injured in the operation.

"We have reason to believe that this weapon was given by Pakistan Army to JeM cadre, and that there are five to ten such M4 carbine rifles".

While the police had said that the civilian was caught in cross fire during the encounter, the locals had alleged that he was "deliberately" targeted by the security forces during the protests.

A Jaish spokesperson identifying himself as Hassan Shah sent a statement to local news agencies claiming that one of the slain militants was Tallah Rashid, nephew of Maulana Masood Azhar. He said that the weapon was given by Pakistan army to JeM militants.

India has long accused Pakistan of harboring militant groups and giving them material support to carry out a 28-year armed revolt in disputed Kashmir. Security forces have recovered US-made M16 rifle, one AK-47 and a pistol from the encounter site.

GOC Victor Force said the prize catch of this operation were the two A++ category militants.

Major General B.S. Raju, General Officer Commanding (GOC) the Army's "Victor Force" said at the press conference, "We've recovered M4 carbine, a USA made weapon used by North Atlantic Treaty Organisation forces".

"The US-made M4 carbine is used by a lot of armies part of North Atlantic Treaty Organisation. He was the main person supporting and guiding the JeM militants who were killed alongwith him", he said. "We are in a firm belief that Allah will soon bless us with the freedom", he said.

Replying questions, IGP Khan said that there are 16 to 20 JeM militants still active in Kashmir Valley. When they opened fired, the forces retaliated and gunned down the terrorists.
