Marvel comic book writer Brian Michael Bendis signs exclusive deal with DC

Bendis responded to the news DC Comics announced this morning. Most recent works include the Civil War II cross-over series, Jessica Jones, Spider-man: Miles Morales and Invincible Iron Man: Ironheart.

The comic book world has been buzzing about DC's acquisition of Brian Michael Bendis, who will be working for the company in a multi-year deal.

"We are beyond thrilled to welcome Brian Michael Bendis exclusively to the DC family with a multi-year, multi-faceted deal", DC tweeted.

It will be interesting to see who will be replacing Bendis in the four titles he is now writing and when they will come.

Bendis has written for DC once in the past-contributing a Batman story to the 2007 collection Batman: The Greatest Stories Ever Told, Volume 2-but this is arguably less about Bendis getting the opportunity to work with a whole universe of characters he's never worked with before, and more about Marvel losing one of its biggest and most important writers. He also co-created Jessica Jones in Alias, only one of many of his projects to find their way to the big screen or be referenced in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Bendis later retweeted the announcement, confirming it is real and not some nefarious plot by the Anti-Monitor. It's easy to imagine Bendis putting dialogue in Dick Grayson's mouth in Nightwing, or DC reviving titles like Gotham Central or The Question under his watch. Re-team him with his Ultimate Spider-Man creative partner Mark Bagley and let them run wild with Shazam. I am bursting with ideas and inspiriations.

Marvel Chief Creative Officer Joe Quesada also commented about Bendis on Twitter, thanking him while reassuring Marvel fans that there was no reason to feel down about the company's plans for the year ahead. "Details to come! Stay tuned!"
