Late singer honored with star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame

The ceremony was the first at night since February 8, 2010, when a star honoring Beatles drummer Ringo Starr was unveiled, said Leron Gubler, president and CEO of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, which administers the Walk of Fame.

The late Selena Quintanilla was honored Friday with the 2,262nd Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Thousands of fans showed up to be part of the historic moment.

Selena's family and fans attended the ceremony, along with actress Eva Longoria, who said the singer had a big influence on her career and identity. Longoria, along with Mayor Eric Garcetti and Selena's family members, announced it would officially be "Selena Day". "Since her make-up line came up and her sister and her family are really trying to promote her more, they were finally able to get a star for her", fan Nidia Robles, of Reseda, said. The "Bidi Bidi Bom Bom" crooner now has an entire MAC makeup collection dedicated to her, and two of today's most renowned stars, Demi Lovato and Kim Kardashian West, both dressed in her likeness this Halloween.

On March 31, 1995, Selena was murdered by Yolanda Saldívar, an employee who oversaw Selena's boutiques and fan club.

The singer has become even more famous after her death.

"I think she represents us as a whole, as Hispanics and Latinos".

Selena Quintanilla's sister said her Hollywood Walk of Fame is "long time coming".

Selena's best-known songs include "Bid, Bid Bom Bom", "Dreaming of You", "No Me Queda Mas", "Amor Prohibido" and "Como La Flor". Selena was proud of being from Corpus Christi, Texas.

Aside from the star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Nov. 3. was also proclaimed as the official "Selena Day" in Los Angeles. Her smile, her charisma, her beauty put every single person who watched her under a spell.
