Tory MP Says He "Feels Sorry" For Sir Michael Fallon

Weakened after losing her party's majority in a June election, May will want to move swiftly to appoint a replacement with as little disruption as possible.

Fallon is the first lawmaker to resign amid a growing number of claims against British politicians that have emerged in the wake of the Harvey Weinstein scandal, which has encouraged people around the world to share their stories about sexual harassment.

In his resignation letter to Prime Minister Theresa May, Fallon wrote: "A number of allegations have surfaced about MPs in recent days including some about my previous conduct".
