One dead at University of Utah shooting, police search for suspect

The city police have published a photo of the alleged attacker, 24-year-old Austin Boutain.

The librarian called the library's armed security guards, Brown said, and Boutain was taken into custody without incident.

"We just know they were here", he said, speaking in front of the RV where the body was found.

The Department of Public Safety has dispatched a helicopter crew to assist the University of Utah Police.

"In the communities we serve there is not a better partner than the citizens", Brown said. Greg Wilking said the Golden man's green pickup truck is tied to the campus shooting but said investigators are not "100 percent sure" how.

Shortly after, police received calls about shots being fired.

Brown says police are still investigating how Boutain evaded a manhunt that started after 23-year-old Chinese student ChenWei Guo was found shot to death Monday evening in his auto in a canyon near campus.

University of Utah students were told to stay indoors following the reports of a shooting on campus Monday night, with at least one person dead.

On Tuesday morning, the Salt Lake Tribune reported that authorities identified the victim as CheinWei Guo, an worldwide student from China.

A criminal background check did not yield immediate results for Austin Boutain, though police distributed mugshots indicating he had been arrested in Marion County, Alabama, in the past. They identified her as Kathleen Boutain. The police presence on campus has been increased.

At least eight law enforcement agencies were on scene in Utah, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

The manhunt continued into the night, and began again, full force, Tuesday morning. He is considered armed and unsafe.

As police search for Boutain, classes have been cancelled for students.

But efforts continued on a lesser level.

Both Austin Boutain and his wife, Kathleen, are in custody, police said.

During a press conference Tuesday morning police said Boutain is wanted in Golden Colorado for murder. Authorities believe the two had been in Utah for days and were camping in the foothills near the university. He had been dead for several days and his death is being investigated as a homicide.
