UP Minister's convoy mows down 8-year-old boy

As per Gonda police, the convoy had three vehicles with a decorated SUV riding right behind the first one.

The Cabinet Minister, who is from the quota of BJP ally Suheldeo Bharatiya Samaj Party (JBSP), however, clarified that he was in another vehicle which was 25 kms away from the site where accident occurred.

But the family says otherwise.

The minister was reportedly on his way to attend a function in Paraspur locality of Gonda when the vehicle hit Shiva who was playing on a pavement.

The boy was with his aunt at the time of the accident and Rajbahar was on way back to Lucknow from Behta-Gaurasinghpur village in Gonda district. Station house officer of Colonelganj police station, Sadanand Singh said that Ram Jeet Rajbhar had been arrested and Toyota Innova bearing registration number UP60 AD 9567 had been also taken into custody. "No one has been named", Singh said.

Protesting against this irresponsible behaviour, the villagers laid down the body of the boy on the road and blocked it. "The minister wanted to return". The vehicle which hit the boy was not part of my cavalcade. A probe has been ordered into the incident.

In a statement issued later in evening the Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced the compensation of Rs 5 lakh for the kin of the deceased and asked director general of police to initiate probe into the matter. It was reported that the minister's convoy didn't even stop after the incident. At the most, his driver could be tried for causing death due to negligent driving, he said.

The farmer had alleged that last week almost a dozen vehicles of the minister destroyed his crops in Orai.
