The famous Japanese video games console maker Nintendo Co Ltd.is expecting its highest earnings in seven years. Sales have exceeded the company's initial estimate, outstripping those of predecessor Wii U, and leaving suppliers scrambling for parts.

In total, 27.48 million Switch games have been sold. It's doing significantly better than the Wii U. Released in November 2012, the Wii U went on to sell 13.56 million units by the time of its discontinuation in January this year.

Kimishima also said Nintendo is preparing game software that provides Switch users with new "experiences".

With Nintendo back on the map among gamers, its Switch console is finding favor as it can be used as an at-home games console, but can also be simply removed from its dock and the controllers attached to either side of its screen to be used portably. But many users complained about the high price they had to pay to unlock all of the game's levels.

The single biggest reason Nintendo has been unable to produce enough Switches is the shortage of electronic components.

The company told Reuters that it's again upping the number of Switch consoles being produced, with president Tatsumi Kimishima stating: "We've boosted Switch production in order to meet strong demand from our customers as it was hard for customers to buy the consoles at retail stores".
