Sex CD scandal: Rajesh Munat requests for 'high-level' inquiry

The police had sought five days remand for carrying out further investigations.Appearing for the senior journalist, his counsel Satish Verma argued that the manner in which the police took undue interest and took action in haste clearly indicated that the police is acting under pressure of the state government.

Senior journalist Vinod Verma was on Sunday remanded in custody of the Chhattisgarh police till Tuesday by a court in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, in connection with the case of alleged blackmailing and extortion.

He filed another application under Section 54 of CrPC. The journalist, who has worked with the BBC Hindi and Umar Ujala in the past, was brought in the court amid tight police security.

Verma has alleged two influential Chhattisgarh ministers hatched a conspiracy against him and no CDs were seized from his possession. Supreme Court guidelines were not followed in the case as family members of the accused Vinod Verma were not informed by police regarding his arrest.

In the reaction of Verma claim, PWD minister Rajesh Munat while addressing the conference said that the CD content is fake.

He also said that the investigation should be done because the way politics was being played was "not right".

Later, Munat had lodged a complaint against state Congress chief Bhupesh Baghel and Vinod Verma at the Civil Lines police station here.

The complainant alleged that Verma had threatened to expose his private life and that the journalist possessed a sex tape which he was using to blackmail him. "I had said yesterday that the CD was false; it has no credibility", Munat told ANI.
