J&K: Security personnel, 2 terrorists killed in encounter in Bandipora

One among the two injured Special Operations Group (SOG) personnel of Jammu and Kashmir Police has succumbed to his injuries.

Security forces had received intelligence inputs about the presence of militants in the area after which they cordoned off the Mir Mohalla village in Hajin area of the district. One of them had a bullet injury, medical sources say.A broken windshield of a auto alleged smashed by government forces during search and cordon operations.Locals said they were forced to protest after forces alleged misbehaved with them before the encounter began.

The demonstrators trying to disrupt the operation, pelted stones on security forces deployed outside the cordoned off area to maintain law and order. Shah, 23, also known as "Abu Osama Bhai" was killed at Litter area in Pulwama, a place considered to be a safe haven for militants.

Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh and senior officers paid tributes and placed floral wreaths on the body of the slain constable. The Ikhwan was responsible for wiping out extremism in the mid-1990s as a sizeable militants surrendered before the Army to join the group. He was later killed by militants in 2003.

It was reported that two Lashker-e-Toiba (LeT) militants were hiding in the densely populated area. "A massive stone pelting started near the encounter site and the terrorists took advantage of the situation".
