Michael Bay is making a live action 'Dora the Explorer' movie

Unlike the TV series, the movie will feature a teenage Dora who moves to the city with her cousin Diego where adventure presumably awaits of course. Bay will be producing the live action version of Dora the Explorer under Platinum Dunes which specialises in horror films but has partnered with Paramount for Transformers and Ninja Turtles.

Dora the Explorer was an global and merchandising phenomenon for Nickelodeon. Bay co-founded the company in 2001 alongside Andrew Form and Brad Fuller. No word on whether or not we'll see Dora's talking purple backpack, Swiper the Fox, or her well-dressed monkey companion Boots. The film will be aimed towards a 2019 release date.

For the uninformed, Dora the Explorer is an animated educational kids show which ran on Nickelodeon from 2000 to 2014 and has spawned a massive merchandising empire that included toys, clothing and even a stage show and more.

One bright spot about this odd concept is that the script is being written by Nicholas Stoller, the scribe behind hit comedy "Neighbors", who's also penned more family-friendly fare like this year's "Captain Underpants" and the fantastic rebooted "The Muppets".
