India vs New Zealand: Dinesh Karthik recalled for ODI series

The All-India Senior Selection Committee named the Indian Cricket Team for the three-match One-Day International series against New Zealand.

The selectors will thus continue to chop and change the squad with every next limited overs series so as to find the right combination suitable to represent the team in the 50-over tournament.

The best thing that worked in Astle's favour was a special praise from the legendary player and the coach of India A team Rahul Dravid after his excellent spell in the tied game.

The Tamil Nadu wicketkeeper-batsman, principally selected for his batting credentials these days, was picked in the Twenty20 series against Australia but did not get a game.

Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma will be the first-choice openers with Ajinkya Rahane also being there. It's great to play under him. If we go by the reason he has given for his inclusion in the side, it clearly supports a batting role than of a wicketkeeper which is held strongly by the former Indian captain MS Dhoni and he looks absolutely ideal behind the stumps with his gloves.

Karthik so far has played 73 ODIs for India.

Thakur made his debut during the series against Sri Lanka in August and September of this year but was left out the group that took on Australia. In their absence, wrist spinners Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav and left-arm spinner Akshar Patel have given a good account of themselves. The swordsman has since faded away and has been dumped thrice in ODIs against Lanka, Australia and now New Zealand.

India captain Virat Kohli has said on multiple occasions that there would be experimentation with the team as they prepare for the 2019 World Cup.

There was no place for Mohammed Shami and Umesh Yadav, both of whom played just the Bangalore ODI vs Australia.

Queried about his favourite batting slot, Karthik said, "Obviously, four is a great position for me".

The 32-year-old Karthik was recalled for a ODI match in Antigua after almost three-and-a-half years.
