Child falls to death from Carnival cruise ship

Medical emergency units responded to the incident and provided first aid to the young victim before rushing her off to nearby the Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital, ABC News reported.

Ignatius Carroll, a spokesman for Miami Fire Rescue, said the 8-year-old girl fell about two stories inside the Carnival Cruise Line's Glory ship.

This is really hard to hear and we do hope she pulls through.

Dorr, a retired emergency medical technician, said, 'She had severe injuries.

It's unclear what led the child to fall.

"The ship's command immediately contacted Miami-Dade Police Department which is on site".

"I started doing CPR until the doctor showed up, and then the doctor took over".

A relative said she was only out of her family's sight for a few seconds before she fell.

"It happened so fast", said Kassim.

Passengers described the frantic effort to save the 8-year-old. "But she didn't. My heart goes out to the family".

She has not been named, but her family are understood to be from the Bahamas and had just finished a seven-day cruise.

A statement from Miami-based Carnival Cruise Lines, a subsidiary of US-British Carnival Corporation & PLC, to 7News said: "Our most heartfelt condolences are with the family at this very hard time".

The ship was turned over to Carnival to resume normal operations, police said.
