Solar scam: vigilance probe against ex Kerala CM Chandy

Finding grave fault with the government and the Chief Minister for disclosing the contents without tabling the report in an appropriate manner and announcing a probe, the Congress leadership believes what was presented as conclusions and findings of the Commission were only political versions of it and set goals of the ruling CPM. Following this, the government accepted the report and made a decision to take action on the basis of the legal advice received. Justice G. Sivarajan Judicial Commission probing the solar scam, faced with this deluge of inconclusive information, patiently put together the pieces of evidence to reach a prima facie conclusion on one of the biggest scandals that rocked the state. He told Express in the event of denying the details of the report, he would proceed legally to avail of the copy. He said the real intention of the LDF government is to break the base of the Congress in the State.

The Congress party in Kerala over the years has been headed by factional leaders - with the current and majority faction led by Chandy and the other by Chennithala.

Reacting to the development in Thrissur, Chandy said the government selectively leaking the contents meant that it lacked credibility and will remain as such until the full contents are known to public. The attempt was to save the Chief Minister of that time by keeping him out of the purview of the investigation, said Pinarayi Vijayan. "This will not happen", he added.

The probe was announced to influence a state byelection next week, he alleged. In both these cases, the CPI (M) did not issue any denials, Mr. Chennithala said in support of his contention that further steps on the solar scam was politically motivated.

The call records of Saritha, compiled by the special investigation team and submitted before the Commission, revealed that all the Congress leaders, apart from Oommen Chandy, whose names were mentioned in the controversial letter written by Saritha, were in constant touch with her before the cases against her surfaced.

He said the Kerala unit of the CPI (M) considers Congress as its main enemy, while for the Congress, the BJP is the main opponent. Saritha and Biju had used high-profile names including that of Chandy in order to canvas people for this objective. He was referring to the bypoll ongoing in Vengara assembly constituency on Wednesday. "I want to remind the CM and the CPI (M) that if they think they can destroy the Congress by putting a large number of its leaders under a cloud of suspicion, then they are living in illusion".

Aryadan Muhammed, a former cabinet colleague and cited by the commission, questioned the logic of the Chief Minister in having chosen to rush with the contents before they were tabled in the State Assembly.
