Texas girl, 3, missing after late-night punishment

The alert can be activated in the future if needed.

- No information is available at this time as to why DPS changed the status of the alert. Sherin is three-years-old.

After her disappearance, police towed the family's vehicles to search for evidence and went door-to-door through the family's neighborhood using search dogs in attempts to locate the girl. He said her to stand outside by herself at night near an alley behind her home.

A Texas girl who was sent outside by her father as punishment for not drinking her milk is still missing-two days later, police said. He later told detectives he knew coyotes were seen in the area where he left his daughter. The house also backs on a railroad track.

"Wesley Mathews said he directed his daughter to stand near a large tree... because she wouldn't drink her milk", says the report.

The family reported the girl missing just after 8 a.m. on Saturday.

Police said Sherin suffers from development issues may not be able to communicate with people if found. Police even went house-to-house, knocking on doors and asking questions with the hope of finding the child. The Texas Child Protective Services has reportedly removed the toddler's 4-year-old sister from the parents and placed her in protective custody.

According to Fox News, police were concerned that Mr Matthews didn't report his child missing until five hours later. He was arraigned for endangerment on Sunday, with a bond set at $250,000. Fifteen minutes later, when Mathews returned to check on the girl, his daughter was gone, Sgt. Kevin Perlich told the Houston Chronicle.
