'Gambit' Has Found Another Director - Gore Verbinski In Talks With Fox

It now appears that a new face is being brought on to the movie in Pirates of the Caribbean originator Gore Verbinski, according to Deadline.

If hired, Verbinski would be the third director attached to the project. His last film was 2016's A Cure for Wellness, and he has been attached to direct several upcoming films including a Clue remake, an adaptation the William Monahan novel Light House: A Trifle, and a Steven Carrell-led film titled Butterfly.

For Gambit to be successful, they would definitely benefit from taking their cues from both Deadpool and Logan, and a more auteur-esque director like Gore Verbinski would definitely enable them to get creative.

Liman had already replaced original director Rupert Wyatt, who left over budgetary disagreements, and there have been reports of multiple script re-writes meaning the movie has been pushed back to 2017. If Verbinski locks in a deal with the studio, it will be his first return to big budget blockbuster filmmaking since the colossal failure of 2013's The Lone Ranger. In addition to his appearances in X-Men: The Animated Series (where he was a main character), X-Men: Evolution and Wolverine and the X-Men, as well as numerous video games, Gambit was previously portrayed on the silver screen by Taylor Kitsch in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Time will tell. But Fox would obviously love to have a Channing Tatum X-Men movie in theatres sooner rather than later. The scrupt was written by Josh Zetumer.
