Street Fighter 5: Arcade Edition announced for PS4 and PC

Arcade Edition will be released worldwide on 16 January 2018, and given for free to all owners of Street Fighter V. The 12 additional characters are not available for free to current Street Fighter V players, but can be accessed using earned Fight Money or purchased in-game currency. The main things this version of the game will add are two new modes and all the DLC characters from Season 1 and Season 2.

We scored Street Fighter 5 an impressive 9/10 in our original review, praising its varied roster of characters and endless levels of depth. That being said, it remains uncertain whether costumes and stages would be included in the update.

As noted on the official Street Fighter 5: Arcade Edition fact sheet, players will be able to unlock premium costumes each month in 2018. The announcement falls short of an actual arcade release, however.

These changes might have a big impact on how Street Fighter V is played. Over time, Capcom has added everything from new characters to a comprehensive story mode to the game. It will feature "Arcade Mode, Extra Battle Mode, new V-Triggers, and more!" In order to introduce more variety in each match, all characters will receive a second V-Trigger you can choose before the match begins! The Arcade mode screen shows a number of options, letting you determine how many battles you fight based on criteria from past entries. In mid-September, UK-based online retailer ShopTo posted a listing for Arcade Edition with details and a release date identical to the ones posted by Amazon, but the company removed the listing just hours later. Further information on these modes can be found on the game's website.

In other Capcom news, reports indicate that the publisher restricted the budget for Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite to less than half of the budget reserved for Street Fighter V's DLC.
