Night Shyamalan's Unbreakable Sequel Is Happening

Filming on "Glass, ' the sequel to twist maestro M. Night Shyamalan's 2000 modern classic 'Unbreakable" and last year's psychological thriller 'Split, ' has officially kicked off this week in Philadelphia.

Today (October 2), he tweeted out a photo of a production slate with the caption, "Day 1: Seventeen years in the making".

Still here? Good. If so, you'll probably be aware that Glass is not only the sequel to Shyamalan's Split, which starred James McAvoy, but also a follow-up to his earlier hit, Unbreakable.

The director confirmed that filming on Glass is now underway, after previously mentioned that the cast and crew conducted successful rehearsals for the film. Both Universal Pictures and Disney's Buena Vista International have material stake in Glass, with the former releasing the film domestically and the latter handling international distribution. Granted, M. Night Shyamalan has made more than a few truly bad movies, so we should probably temper expectations just a bit, in case he falls back into not-so-old habits.

From Unbreakable, Bruce Willis returns as David Dunn and Samuel L. Jackson is back as Elijah Price, best known by his pseudonym Mr. Golden Globe victor Sarah Paulson has also been confirmed to be among the new additions to the cast. The movie will chronicle a "series of escalating encounters, while the shadowy presence of Price emerges as an orchestrator who holds secrets critical to both men". Scheduled release for January 2019, it's a similar time to the release of Split with Universal probably trying to recreate Split's successful box office run.

Jackson will be returning from Unbreakable and James McAvoy - who played the villain in Split - will also be joining in on the fun, along with one the film's other stars Anya Taylor-Joy.

Jason Blum, Marc Bienstock, Ashwin Rajan and Shyamalan are all producing Glass.
