Georgia city will rename itself Amazon if it wins the new headquarters

As cities around the country compete with each other to lure Amazon's second headquarters, lawmakers in a Georgia city are offering to rename their town "Amazon" if the company opens a new headquarters there.

In order for the City of Amazon to be created, the DeKalb legislative delegation will be asked to propose the de-annexation of a portion of Stonecrest during the 2018 or 2019 session of the General Assembly.

With the RFP deadline of October 19 looming, Stonecrest probably won't be the last city to make a insane play for HQ2.

Lary said the city has gotten the attention of Seattle, Washington, the state where Amazon's headquarters are located. Or should we say Amazon, Georgia?

City council members want Springfield to be considered to host Amazon's second headquarters location. Close to the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, the area is home to roughly 34,000 residents, the majority of which being white-collar workers.

"There are several major USA cities that want Amazon, but none have the branding opportunity we are now offering this visionary company", said Lary. The company is promising to bring 50,000 jobs that pay an average of $100,000 to the new facility.

Will Stonecrest, Georgia become Amazon's latest hub?

According to local media, the council voted 4-2 on Monday to form the city of Amazon if the company chooses the site for the "HQ2" project.

The city ranked highest in the "ease of transportation" category (probably because of its proximity to D.C. and New York).

A recent study published by Anderson Economic Group examined 35 metro areas that fit Amazon's criteria of what it's looking for outside of its current base in Seattle, focusing on access to labor and services, the ease of transportation and the cost of doing business. Amazon then sent replacements, which were sold to someone else involved in the criminal scheme.
