49ers Week 4 Injury Report: Defense Still Hurting Despite Extra Rest

The veteran rusher was limited at practice this week.

The catch, which would've been the game-winning touchdown for the Cardinals in overtime on Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers, was ruled incomplete because officials believed Brown didn't get his second foot down in bounds, even after reviewing it. After throwing an INT on their first offensive play, and looking all but done midway through the 4th, the 49ers rallied themselves back into the game with a chance to win late in the 4th. Brian Hoyer finished the game with 234 passing yards, no touchdowns, an interception and a rating of 54.3.

Palmer began the drive with a pair of 11-yard completions to Andre Ellington, quickly moving the ball to the Arizona 47 with 1:54 to go in the extra session.

Coming off of his best performance as a 49er, WR Marquise Goodwin will look to build on this against Arizona.

For 60 minutes, the game had been a battle between the two kickers. He was targeted five times in the first half and at times showed his old quickness and burst finding pockets in the Niners' zone defense.

"I told our guys on Friday that this is the game I wanted to see, I wanted to us to get in a game that was going to go to the wire, and see what we're made of", Arians said.

Fitzgerald got the big play at the end, but Brown had almost 100 yards combined on receiving yards plus penalty yardage drawn, while Jaron Brown (eight catches for 105 yards) and Ellington (nine catches, 86 yards) had big roles too. One strong player who may be joining the team on Sunday is Running back Carlos Hyde. Quarterback Carson Palmer has been erratic at times this season, but offensive line struggled and he was under constant duress against the Cowboys. Thanks in large part because of the previous OT game at University of Phoenix Stadium - the 6-6 tie that ate up all 15 extra minutes a year ago - overtime was changed to 10 minutes. Even if Bowman wasn't able to make much of a return out of the turnover, it would have setup a short field for at least another field goal attempt before the half ended. He flung it out of the way, returned, then got the call from the 49ers sideline as to what defense to run for the next down. Arians has struggled throughout his tenure with game management, which was on full display last week-highlighted by an bad challenge in the 4th quarter against Dallas.

And the Cardinals are 2-0 this season, which keeps them breathing in the NFC West.

Numerous standing players placed one hand on their heart, the other on the shoulder of a kneeling teammate in a sign of solidarity. Palmer said the 49ers' decision to play a soft zone in overtime helped. If there were any lingering questions about exactly who the Cardinals are going to be this season, those questions will be answered before your alarm sounds Monday morning.

- Hall of Fame quarterback Kurt Warner formally received his Hall of Fame ring during a halftime ceremony. The 49ers had three safeties in the game with four linebackers.

That will not work against the Philadelphia Eagles next week.

San Francisco's offense had a breakout game last week against the Los Angeles Rams, racking up 39 points after failing to score a touchdown in the opening two games.

Overall, the Cardinals lead 59-56-5 in a series that dates back to 1935.
