Saquon Barkley returns opening kickoff vs. IN back for a TD

Special teams: They probably won Penn State the game in the first quarter, then did plenty to keep in in it after that.

It wasn't the prettiest 31-point victory, but a win is a win. Penn State's Saquon Barkley is lightning in the return game, too.

Despite sputtering in the run game, the Nittany Lions were able to earn a 31-point victory over a solid in team that will go to a bowl on Saturday afternoon. The Nittany Lions are only behind Alabama and Georgia, allowing only six touchdowns and 47 points through five games.

Kicker Tyler Davis is now just five for 11 on field goal tries this year, and the issues seem to be hard to pinpoint, as sometimes the snap has been poor, other attempts have been stopped before they began by bad protection, holds have been an issue from time to time, and Davis has simply missed at least one try.

Cornerback Christian Campbell covered the Hoosiers number one receiver on Saturday, Simmie Cobbs.

Barkley also got into the action on that side of the ball, fooling the Hoosiers defense with a 16-yard touchdown pass.

As Hamilton's receptions piled up, it seemed only fitting that his seventh catch of the day to tie the all-time record came by way of a 24-yard touchdown pass from McSorley in the third quarter, one that nearly got wiped away.

Saturday was also the first multi-touchdown game of Hamilton's illustrious Penn State career.

"Special" teams: IN entered the game with one of the best special teams units IN the Big Ten, highlighted by J-Shun Harris, who had won the last two Big Ten Special Teams Player of the Week honors thanks to scores the last two weeks.

Before Saturday's IN matchup, wide receiver DaeSean Hamilton knew right where he was slotted on Penn State's all-time career receptions list.

"The kickoff return was a huge momentum thing, first play of the entire game", quarterback Trace McSorley said. However, linebacker play improved immensely last week against Iowa.

IN hosts Charleston Southern on Saturday. He's had a great career, been a great leader, great teammate and great student. He had 14 tackles, one sack and 1.5 tackles for loss on Saturday. He also had an unbelievable one-hand grab and run in the first quarter.

"Penn State's running back continues to find new ways to amaze", CBS Sports' Ben Kercheval writes. Now that Cabinda, Manny Bowen, and Koa Farmer are starting to play to their potential the Nittany Lion defense can be a very special unit.

Special teams and college football's most special player paved the way to a blowout win Saturday for Penn State.

Hamilton's first reception of the day came on Penn State's first scoring drive in the first quarter, a 4-yard grab with the Nittany Lions already leading 7-0 helped out by running back Saquon Barkley's sensational 98-yard return for a touchdown on the opening kickoff. Scott scooped it up and returned it 13 yards to put Penn State up 21-0 less than 10 minutes in.

Saquon Barkley again proved why he is the best player in the country.

That will do it for this week.
