BSF jawan injured in Pak sniper fire on LoC

"Pakistan is a country of cowards, on one side they show white flags and on other (they) target civilians", said Nirmal Singh, deputy chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir.

The boy has been identified as Israr Ahmad, a resident of Kerni sector, and the girl, Yasmeen Akhtar, reportedly died in Digwar.

Indian troops fired in retaliation and the exchange of fire between the two sides was underway when last reports came in. The injured have been admitted a district hospital in the Digwar sector of Poonch.

Pakistan has been continually and consistently violating the ceasefire along the LoC. The most recent incident took place on Wednesday when the Pak troops shelled LoC at Poonch and Bhimbher ali sector.

Till August 1, there were 285 violations by Pakistani forces while in 2016, the number was significantly less at 228 for the entire year, according to Army figures.

The Indian troops were retaliating.

Pakistan has violated the ceasefire a number of times in the a year ago. Sources said people were staying indoors in view of mortar shelling from across the LoC.

Defence experts are opined that this ceasefire violation is a possible attempt to help the infiltrators to get inside the Indian territory.

In another development, security forces along the border foiled an infiltration bid in Keran sector that led to the killing of an infiltrator.
