"The strike took place near the border with Afghanistan", said Basir Khan, the senior official in the Kurram agency agency in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas.

No government spokesman was available for comment.

Ghani further said that the world has heard Afghanistan's voice on counter-terrorism efforts and that the Taliban must know they can not win the war.

USA drone attacks inside Pakistan have become infrequent over the past few years.

In his August 21 policy speech, President Trump accused Pakistan of harboring Haqqanis and Taliban insurgents, warning he would "no longer be silent about Pakistan's safe haven for terrorist organizations". The officials said supporters of the Haqqani network also operate from the border village. "Previously we were waiting to talk with Pakistan equally, but now we hold talks with Pakistan with an honour and we preserve our interests in these talks", Afghan media reported.

According to the officials, shortly after the strike residents saw suspected militants transporting slain and wounded persons to an undisclosed location.

Observers predicted an increase in U.S. drone attacks inside Pakistan when Trump came into power, but since January there have only been a few.

The United States carries out internationally-condemned extrajudicial drone strikes in several Islamic countries including Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq, Yemen, Somalia, and Libya. "By its own admission, the US government's use of drones has meant the deaths of civilians and there has been insufficient accountability".

"This year we have some tremendous achievements", Stanekzai said, including Afghanistan's full membership of the International Cricket Council.
