'Godfather II,' 'Alien' actor Harry Dean Stanton dead at 91

"Repo Man", released that same year, became another signature film: Stanton starred as the world-weary boss of an auto repossession firm who instructs Estevez in the tricks of the hazardous trade. In Wim Wenders' 1984 rustic show "Paris, Texas", Stanton's close silent execution is bound with snapshots of cleverness and impact.

Stanton's final role, "Lucky", was directed by John Carroll Lynch in his directorial debut. He plays it with tenderness and melancholy a in his nineties who smokes a pack of cigarettes per day, spends his mornings in dinners and afternoons in front of the tv games.

Other notable appearances include Down Periscope, Fire Down Below, The Green Mile, The Pledge, Anger Management, Inland Empire, and Twin Peaks: Firewalk with Me. He performed in bands under different names - such as Harry Dean Stanton and the Repo Men and also the Harry Dean Stanton Band - and he was friends with Bob Dylan.

A cause of death for Harry Dean Stanton has yet to be determined.

Lynch, a continuous teammate with the performer in ventures like "Wild on the most fundamental level" and the current reboot of "Twin Peaks", said in an announcement after Stanton's demise that "Everybody cherished him". Stanton was one of his favourite actors. He was the subject of the 2013 documentary "Harry Dean Stanton: Partly Fiction".

During six decades of his acting career, Stanton secured tiny roles in a number of TV shows, like The Adventures of Rin Tin Tin, Man with a Camera, Alice, Big Love, Mongo Wrestling Alliance, Getting On and Twin Peaks. He was kind and generous and he loved to play music. "And a great human being", Lynch added.

His father was a farmer and a barber, his mother a hairdresser. It's remarkable to me that he's into his 70s and is still up all night. "I don't act like their father, I act like their friend", he once told NY magazine.

Carpenter called him "a wonderful man". He also was in the U.S. Navy in World War II, serving as a cook aboard a ship during the Battle of Okinawa. "Most of the players have not had this experience".

"I hated being typecast in those roles. It is bad to play the same emotions again and always!" He was known for his roles in movies like Godfather 2, Alien and Cool Hand Luke. It sharing scene anthology with a vibrant Nastassja Kinski.

Shawn Doyle, Stanton's Big Love co-star, took to Twitter to post a tribute of his own.
