Three children killed in West Sacramento

Police say the man arrested in the killing of three children inside a West Sacramento apartment was the children's father.

West Sacramento police received a domestic violence call just after 9:20 the Timber Apartments off Jefferson Boulevard, according to Sgt. Roger Kinney.

The children's mother, a victim of domestic violence and Hodges' wife, witnessed Hodges kill the children, Kinney said.

Despite efforts by responding teams to revive the children, all three were pronounced dead at the scene reported the Sacramento Bee. They also have not revealed their ages or genders.

"Our thoughts and hearts are with their family and all the classmates, friends, and families connected to the children", the statement from the WUSD said. "This is going to take not hours, not days, it's going to take a long time to come to grips with what happened there".

CBS 13 in Sacramento reports that 33-year-old Robert Hodges was taken into custody after midnight Thursday during a traffic stop on Interstate 80.

In a press release, West Sacramento Mayor Christopher Cabaldon said all of West Sacramento is shocked and heartbroken, "by the vile domestic murder of three children in our community".

Two of the children were students at Southport Elementary School, where guidance counselors and chaplains will be to help students, teachers and parents deal with the incident.

Theresa Bustamante lives next to the apartment where the children were killed.

Hodges is scheduled to be arraigned on Monday (18 September), Kinney said. I was in my apartment all the time.

"I played with her nearly every single day. she was a nice friend", Alina said. By the time police arrived at the home, Holdges had already fled.
