Real Madrid defender Marcelo signs new five-year deal

Real Madrid fullback Marcelo has agreed to a five-year contract renewal with the European champions.

Marcelo first joined the Bernabeu in January 2007 from Brazilian side Fluminese. "Tomorrow, Friday, at 2 p.m., Isco will appear before the media in the press room of the Santiago Bernabeu stadium".

Real Madrid have made an official statement to announce that they have reached an agreement with Marcelo to extend his current contract with the club.

A number of clubs, including Barcelona and Bayern Munich were said to be interested in the player, who had entered the final year of his deal.

The 29-year-old joined in 2007, making nearly 300 appearances as Real have maintained their status as one of the most successful clubs in world football. He is now the club's second-longest serving foreign player with 414 appearances, behind only his compatriot Roberto Carlos, who played 527 times for Real Madrid.

The left-back was shown a straight red card and will now miss LaLiga fixtures against Real Sociedad and Real Betis.

Marcelo will, though, be suspended for Madrid's next two La Liga games after his ban for being sent off for a kick at Jefferson Lerma in Saturday's 1-1 draw at home to Levante was also confirmed on Wednesday.
