Target Plans to Add Over 40% More Jobs This Holiday Season

Target Corp said on Wednesday it would hire 100,000 workers for the holiday season, 43 percent more than previous year, as the retailer goes all out to attract customers at a time when rivals are closing stores and cutting costs. This is a 42.9% increase year over year.

Nationwide, Target plans to hire 100,000 workers for the holiday season at its 1,816 stores plus another 4,500 at the company's distribution and fulfillment centers.

The move this year is an adjustment in favor of brick and mortar, considering the 70,000 seasonal workers hired in stores and 7,500 in its distribution and fulfillment centers a year ago.

Other major holidays season employers including Amazon, Macy's and Kohl's Corp are yet to announce their hiring plans. This will take place from 10:00 a.m.to 6:00 p.m. from Friday, Oct. 13 through Sunday, Oct. 15.

Target says that it is starting to hire for seasonal jobs today. The events will help fill the 100,000 holiday store positions. "We are seeing a labor market in which skilled technical and logistics/supply chain talent is in high demand".

Target's increased store staffing looks to be aimed at preventing loss of sales from customers walking out because of busy checkout lanes or lack of assistance while making purchases, Moody's analyst Charlie O'Shea said.

"Target team members play such an important role in helping guests as they prepare to celebrate the holidays with their families", Potts said.

Opportunities are posted now on Target's seasonal hiring page. That could mean 55 new hourly workers at your local Target.
