The five persons who survived were on the Manali-Katra bus.

The landslide which is suspected to be caused by a cloudburst also swept away houses and many other vehicles including a auto and a jeep besides around 250 meters stretch of Pathankot-Mandi national highway.

Earlier in the day, rescue teams from NDRF and army were called at the scene of the landslide from Kangra to carry out rescue and rehabilitation operation on a war-footing.

At least 6 people have been killed and 6 others injured due to landslides in the Padhar area of Mandi district in Himachal Pradesh. "A bus had also rolled down to almost 800 meters from the National Highway, and four people have been rescued from the debris", Deputy Commissioner of Mandi, Sandeep Kadam told ANI.

Rescue work, which is being carried out by teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Indian Army and Himachal Pradesh Police, is set to resume in the morning.

The district administration swung into action and started the rescue operations with the help of police, home gaurds, PWD workers and some locals. At least 10 people are feared trapped under the landslide debris. The injured persons were taken to a hospital. "My condolences with the families of the deceased", Modi said in a tweet. An HRTC bus, with around 40-45 passengers, bound to Manali from Chamba and a luxury bus going from Manali to Katra were hit, said G.S. Bali, State Transport Minister. "The relief announcement will be done by the Government as per the schedule", Singh told ANI. Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister has already visited the spot and has announced compensation of Rs 5 lakh each to the kin of those killed in the tragic incident.
