White House renovations underway while president 's away

President Donald Trump may return to Washington on Monday for the day from his working vacation, Politico reported Friday.

The Government Services Administration is overseeing the two-week project to update and fix the Oval Office and the working area of the White House. A new heating, ventilation and air conditioning system is being installed in addition to renovations of the West Wing lower lobby, the IT system and the South Portico steps.

Deputy White House press secretary Lindsay Walters said the temperature control systems are functionally 81 years old, since they are used all the time in the capital, which gets hot in the summer and cold in the winter.

Workmen prepared new carpeting for the West Wing.

The tour included a stop in the Oval Office, its wall covered in plastic and the traditional carpet removed, exposing tricolor parquet floors. And while the president is away, the White House's West Wing is getting an face-lift.

A sign in the Palm Room of the White House in Washington alerted visitors as the West Wing is undergoing renovations.

Other recurring problems include leaks in the ceiling and a chronic house fly infestation, according to CNN.

According to the New York Times, the overhaul will cost taxpayers about $3.4 million. His advisers have temporarily moved to the Eisenhower Executive Office Building - adjacent to the White House. It is unclear if he will visit the White House on his quick trip.
