Team Trump shivs Manafort: There's "plenty for Mueller to work with"

President Donald Trump's former campaign chairman, Paul Manafort, has hired new lawyers to represent him in the Russian Federation investigation, a spokesman for Manafort said Friday, as FBI special counsel Robert Mueller homes in on his tax records and overseas lobbying work.

Manafort will be represented by Miller & Chevalier's Kevin Downing, who is a "real rockstar worldwide tax litigator", Maloni said.

Manafort, who is facing increasing pressure from USA special counsel Robert Mueller, divulged Trump Jr.'s meeting with Natalia Veselnitskaya about three months ago, Bloomberg reported.

"I haven't given it any thought", Trump said.

In order to obtain the Manafort search warrant, special counsel Robert Mueller had to demonstrate to a judge probable cause that a crime or crimes had been committed.

And the senators asked for "all communications" from senior Trump campaign advisers, such as Kushner, Manafort, the President's ex-national security adviser Michael Flynn, his attorney Michael Cohen, foreign policy adviser Carter Page and former campaign manager Corey Lewandowski.

But in 2008, Donald Trump Jr., the president's eldest son, told investors in Moscow, "Russians make up a pretty disproportionate cross section of a lot of our assets".

"I want to thank him because we're trying to cut down on payroll", Trump said, adding, "As far as I am concerned, I'm very thankful that he let go of a large number of people because now we have a smaller payroll".

Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, who appointed Mueller in May and supervises his investigation, said that Mueller was operating within his mandate.

'This is an event that never took place'.

Napolitano wouldn't say if the Federal Bureau of Investigation would find a smoking gun and left room for the possibility that special counsel was looking for evidence of Manafort's private financial dealings.

Manafort is a central figure in Mueller's expanding investigation into Russian meddling in the presidential campaign.

"Paul is girding himself for a long legal battle", Jason Maloni told Business Insider.

Lawyers said the special counsel may have been motivated to use a search warrant over concerns that evidence might be concealed or destroyed, which sometimes happens in terrorism and drug trafficking cases.
