Video Shows Car Plunge 7 Stories Off Parking Garage, Narrowly Miss SUV

The dramatic scene was captured on video released Thursday, Aug. 10, 2017, by Austin police.

The Austin Police Department has released surveillance video showing a auto plunging seven stories from a downtown parking garage and striking another vehicle as it lands in an alley.

The vehicle plunged from the 7th floor barely missing a passing SUV last month.

Seconds later, a BMW sedan crashes front-first into the pavement, striking the SUV before coming to a rest on its roof.

A woman in the BMW suffered serious, but not life-threatening injuries. Authorities said the woman was seriously injured.

"I heard all these loud noises and bangs", Burch is quoted as saying.

Surveillance video shows the auto hit the pavement after a seven-storey plunge from a downtown parking garage and striking another vehicle as it lands in the alley.

"I can just imagine what she was thinking when I said, 'A auto just landed on me, I gotta go, '" Burch said. Bystanders reportedly helped the driver until paramedics arrived.

The parking garage at 508 Brazos Street in downtown Austin features a cable guardrail system instead of the usual concrete walls to keep cars from flying off the edge on the back alley side.
